When a new calendar event is added you will see that you have a Reminders option as shown below - by default the system will send an email reminder 1 hour before the event.  Click on the drop down to see that you can set up a 'Pop-up' alert or even an SMS alert to remind you of an event.
























If you wish to remove the default email reminder please click on 'remove' for each of your events.
