Why does an email I sent via the e-Marketing platform show up on the Dashboard as today, when it was sent months ago?

When an email is sent out via the e-Marketing platform we mark it as SENT on the day/time is was sent and left our email gateway.
If the email is opened by the recipient it will record the day and time the email was opened and it will update on the Dashboard to show 'OPENED' which will also be reflected inside the contacts History.
If an email sent many months ago is opened again by the recipient then the Dashboard reflects the latest time of when the email was opened so it would show up again on the Dashboard (as shown above) and also inside the History for the recipient even though the email was opened originally months ago.
